Seeds and Seedlings

Growing season is upon us. I started seeds back in March and they have now sprouted and grown into tiny seedlings. I have made the grievous error of not labelling my seeds when I planted them, thinking that I would remember what I planted, so I will be playing a bit of roulette when it comes to deciding what pots to replant them in.

I am able to identify the tomato seedlings, of which, I have an abundance. This is the challenge with planting seeds, you never know which ones or how many will mature, so planting too many is always a possibility. Fortunately I have some fellow gardeners in my life who have agreed to take some of the seedlings off my hands, because as much as I enjoy tomatoes, I do not have enough room on my balcony for 18 tomato plants.

I am so looking forward to May when it will be warm enough to transplant the seedlings. I love spending early mornings in the sunshine, watering plants and feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin. As the weather gets warm, the draw to the outdoors gets stronger, and much of the summer months are spent out on the balcony, reading books, painting and playing board games with my son. The sounds of traffic and people connecting with each other below us. The occasional bee will stop by to pollinate the flowers and say hello. My balcony garden is a little oasis in the air.

I will also be taking advantage of the warm May weather to paint en plein air. I will be painting at the plein air festival in Elora at the middle of the month and I am also hoping to get out to the parks in my neighbourhood for a few days as well. I am always more inspired to paint this time of year, especially when I can paint on location.

I am still muddling along with my 100 Day Project. This week I took a short break from painting while the demands of my day job took most of my energy. I do have some videos to share though as I have not blogged in a few weeks.

I’m going to keep this week’s post fairly short and sweet. Until next time, I hope you enjoy a bit of sunshine this week and also get a chance to be outdoors.
