Hello October!
The cool air of fall is in the air and the trees are just beginning to change colour. I often speak about how much I enjoy the arrival of a new season and for me, autumn always feels like a fresh reset after the heat and haze of summer. It also feels like a good time to evaluate and reconfirm the projects I want to finish for this year.
One of the projects I intend on reviving for autumn is to finish painting the interior doors in my house. I had started this project in spring, but put it down in the busyness of summer and I am looking forward to making time to finish this project for fall. I don’t like leaving projects unfinished for such a long time, especially when I can see them, so it will feel really nice to have this project finished.
I am also very excited to get back to my deadly and medicinal plant series. I took a brief break on this series for two weeks in September to paint pumpkins for the market, but now I am back into full swing botanical paintings. I love this series because I am learning more about plants that I had no idea were poisonous or had medicinal uses and I always enjoy a series that I learn something from.
Another project I am looking to start for fall is to add e-commerce to my website. I have slowly removed listings from my Etsy shop as I look to move everything to a home base on my website. Stay tuned for more on this!

On my bookshelf:
The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St Clair
Naturally as an artist I am fascinated by colour and I am often searching for more information on how different colours are created. What is great about this book is that it shares the origins of colours and when in history they were used and how they were used. The book shares how colour fits into culture and how its use and perception varies among different cultures and timelines. It is an easy and interesting read and I absolutely recommend it.

In my ears:
Good Hang with Amy Poehler
This podcast has been featured heavily in my rotation this season. Amy is a great interviewer and she has a great mix of guests from fellow comedians, actors and other celebrities. Some of my favourite interviews have been with Michelle Obama, Andy Samberg, Judge Judy, Zarna Garg and Leanne Morgan. One of the things I love about Amy’s podcast is that she invites a guest before her guest to talk well behind their backs and share what they love about the person she is going to interview and to give her a question that they want to know about them. Her interviews are fun and interesting and you really do feel like you are just hanging around listening to a couple of friends talking to each other.

On my screen:
Russian Dolls
This series is very surreal and captivating. I love the concept of time and this series explores that to the max. Natasha Lyonne plays the main character of this series and without giving away the plot, she has to relive her 39th birthday over and over again. I found myself rooting for her throughout the show and I finished both seasons very quickly. I really hope there is a season 3 as I cannot wait to see where they take this season next.

Well, that is all for this week. I am hoping to get back to blogging much more regularly and getting back into the routine of sharing more of my art process here.
Until next time, I hope you find a little something creative to enjoy in your week.
All the best,
Laura
